A new project

I mentioned before that I am a huge fan of the Outlander series.  I am very much looking forward to watching the second half of the Starz TV series when it returns on April 4th.  In the meantime I have been listening to the audio books of the series.

Last month Mary Maxim, the craft retailer, http://www.marymaxim.com/ put out a series of knitting projects inspired by Outlander. http://www.marymaxim.com/promotions/exclusive-outlander-inspired-kits.html  I’m in heaven.  I get to combine my enjoyment of the series with another love of mine, knitting.

To confess, I’m not very good at hand knitting.  I have computerized knitting machines and have made tons of sweaters, baby blankets, scarves, hats and other projects.  I’ve sold a lot of the things I’ve made and I’ll blog about that at another time.  I’m good at crocheting and have made dozens of afghans, but hand knitting for some reason is hard for me.  I’m up for this challenge though and plan to start my first project today.

Mary Maxim offers five different knitting projects, Claire’s Cowl, Claire’s Fingerless Gloves, a Highland Wrap, an Outlandish Capelet, and a Leoch Shrug.  I ordered the cowl, gloves and wrap.  I plan to start the cowl first.

All the kits come with the yarn and great instructions.  The cowl required a size of knitting needle that I didn’t have.  It is a size 35.  I found it at Michael’s craft store.  It looks like I’m going to be knitting this thing with a pair of snare drum sticks.  I’ll post photos when I’m finished.

Do you have an new projects you’re starting?
